Total sales reach 84.5 million copies.
Nintendo sold over 28 million Nintendo Switches last tax year, bringing total sales to 84.5 million copies.
According to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, one-fifth of Nintendo Switch sales last tax year were to gamers who already had one.
Nintendo expects to sell another 22.5 million Nintendo Switches by the end of the current fiscal year year, which is May 2022. If the target is met, the Nintendo Switch will surpass the Wii in total sales. The Wii had sold a total of 101 million copies before being withdrawn.
Furukawa has said many times that the Switch is in the middle of its life cycle. Nintendo has many important games for Nintendo Switch currently under development, such as the remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the Pokemon Diamond and Perl remakes and the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Splatoon 3 that will be released in 2022. In addition, the company is developing a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild more information about which we will have later in the year.
